PC Recording

I currently use Fraps to record my PC gameplay. I can't seem to find good settings that won't make me lag on games such as Garry's Mod. If anyone can give me any advice on settings for Fraps or a better recording software that'd be great.

Depends on three issues your computer setup, the game you're playing, AND how many fps your running fraps at mine when I self built was built to do hard core gaming so I generally don't have tons of issues with frames except for gaming that dislike my processor :mad: but anyways. It just really depends on those factors plus sometimes not running mic audio works from what ive heard I just do it anyways because its safer and easier in my opinion to have mic audio with audacity and game sounds with fraps

Show us your specs. Download Speccy for an elaborate info.:)

Fraps is kinda resource hog since it's recording lossless footage. Bandicam is a great alternative, I'm using that one.

I mentioned this in a different thread also, I did some testing and this is what I found. I plan to make a video on it soon.
Before recording my cpu usage was at 19% and this is was it was while recording... (Avg %)
Fraps = 31%
Dxtory = 28-32% (Depending on the codec. Potential to be lower as I have not tried EVERY codec)
Bandicam = 28%
Mirillis Action = 21%

I was rather surprised myself and have tested Mirillis Action many times since, and I get the same result.. it really is that low.

How about the file size? XD Care to share? xD
This one I did do a video on with quality comparisons and such..
This was a bit extreme, but should show the gap between file sizes. Even though each video sample I did wasn't the same size.
I recorded Far Cry 3 on Ultra settings (2 x MSAA) on 1080p with all the recording software set to record at 60 frames per second.
All of them ended up recording at about 50fps but some did have lag in the recording still..

Here we go:
Mirillis Action for 60 sec of video = 1.7GB
Mirillis Action (with quick sync) for 41 sec = 103MB
Fraps with 43 sec of video = 3.01GB
Dxtory with 29 sec of video = 1.61GB (That would be 3.22 at 60 sec) Also Dxtory could be drastically different with a different codec..
Bandicam with 36 sec of video = 278MB Definitely the smallest (except compared to Action's quick sync) but not the best quality.

You would have to see the video to witness the rest of the comparison. But it shows a clear difference on which is bigger... make sure you take not on how long the videos were in comparison.

I'm fine with Bandicam, it's not like YouTube will retain the quality when it's uploaded anyway. Thanks for the input.
