PC overheated- New fan

I just installed a new cpu fan(ARCTIC Freezer Xtreme Rev. 2 CPU Cooler) because my old stock fan was way too loud and ruined my recordings. When I first installed it I loved it. I could barely hear it and it cooled my CPU all the way down to 16 degrees Celsius(better than the stock fan ever did). I had just bought Battlefield 4 as well, so I began playing it for the first time. I was about an hour into the campaign when my computer cut off unexpectedly. This has never happened to me so I kind of freaked out. Luckily it still works, but I'm afraid to play any games until I know why it overheated with such a nice fan and how to fix it. Does anyone know what could have gone wrong?[DOUBLEPOST=1397886230,1397885936][/DOUBLEPOST]Update: Right now the computer is sitting on idle and the temperature is 26 degrees Celsius, still better than the stock fan which averaged 39 on idle.

Did you properly apply the thermal paste? I messed that up and had similar issues.
It came pre-applied but can that stuff dry up? I had my step dad help put it in and he took the seal off a bit early and it looked as if some of it dried up but he said it was fine(he's not very computer savvy) and I assumed that some of it stuck to the CPU when he first tried putting it on and had to take it off to take the fan out when we realized that's how it was supposed to be installed. If thats the case should I just go to best buy tomorrow and buy some thermal compound?

Pretty sweet, I have a laptop so no trouble with overheating, and a cooling mat of course. I'm thinking of selling it and buying a stronger PC instead, maybe intel core i7 for a good gaming experience.

It doesn't matter when you take the cover off, it wouldn't dry up that quick. I'm gonna ask a question that might sound stupid, but is the fan actually spinning?

Well I played battlefield for a good bit so I would assume it was working and when it's idle it's cooler than with the original stock fan I was using before.

Yeah, PCs can still run for a small amount of time without the fans spinning, it's also possible for radiators without fans to run cooler than the stock fans that come with the CPUs. Some manufacturers used to sell them that way only a few years ago, I remember selling some of the older 1s where I used to work.

I played it for about an hour.... also it isn't liquid cooled, its a big fan.

Yeah I still called the metal part a radiator cause I forgot the name but I literally just remembered as typing this: heatsink. lol So you've checked the fan is running yeah? Is it always shutting down on you or was it just that 1 off time? Was there a random power outage in the house?

Sounds like a Thermal Paste problem, my PC was overheating to 120 degress, reapplied thermal paste to the CPU and now it runs at 30, 60 under full load (Video Games and rendering videos.).
