Paying for subscribers ?!

I've Got It
So I recently went onto a community channel and saw that they had the option to pay for promotions they had things like three shoutouts for 25$ or a sub box for a month for $20 is this wrong ?

What they're doing isn't wrong on YouTube, ethically though it could be argued. Either way it's ineffective. There's no 100% guarantee that the shoutouts will give a good boost and same goes for the sub box. $25 for 3 shout outs is expensive as all hell though, especially for a chance at 0 results.

Well, it's expensive and there's little possibility you can actually get a promotion out there.

I can't really say without seeing it but I'll say that any time someone offers shoutouts for payment it's sketchy. Think about it for a sec. A shoutout works when the person giving the shout out is a reliable source. So like, if you watch and love a channel, and they shout out only what they feel you will think is awesome, it's reliable, they're giving you their opinion, the more times you click the channels they highlight and are impressed the more likely you are to listen when they give a shout out, but if they do it for money? They'll shout out anything, this makes their opinion not worthwhile and even if the first few customers get some real views, the viewers will catch on after that and stop caring about what they're shouting out.

Do it at your own risk then. You'd only be losing money anyway. You can try that.

That seems to be a really bad idea. If they give shout outs to everyone who are willing to pay, then they no doubt give shout outs to some channels that aren't shout out worthy. This will also mean that people won't really care about those shout outs.

exactly.[DOUBLEPOST=1401637584,1401637403][/DOUBLEPOST]and just throwing this out there, you can find tons of similar offers on fiverr, and from what I have seen in the rating/comments some of them do have a small effect. I'm not really saying it's a great idea, but why not pay 5 bucks for the same thing rather than 25, seems like it's closer to being worth what you actually get, alot of the people in the comments say things like "Got a few subscribers from this, not what I expected but the seller did what was asked" etc. I mean, that seems more reasonable, 5 bucks for 10 new subscribers sure beats 25.
