I do let's plays/reviews on games and I used Adsense before I went into a network and had my gameplay monetized. The only thing I suggest is to contact the owner or look for an area on the site that states you're allowed to monetize.

i'm assuming they mean youtubes verification checks, those are random or it's said that it occurs if that person is a constant liability. They are very easy and if you end up getting one you either have 15 days to provide them a picture/email/ or link to the area where they claim that you have permission to monetize if you cant then that video's monetization will be turned off. But I haven't gotten one in the longest time even under adsense.
