I have noticed that some channels have a lot of subscribers, for instance 600 to about a1000 but then they only have 40-70 views on their videos if not less. What do you guys think about this? I think it's kind of weird because I would think subscribers would be the first group of people to watch your videos so with a large number of subscribers, shouldn't there be a large view count as well?
 
Unfortunately, that's just not how it works. Only a small portion of subscribers will regularly watch your content. This even carries over into really big YouTubers. The Yogscast, for example, have 7,000,000 subs and only average around 500,000- 1,000,000 views per video on there most popular content.

Personally speaking, I have 1600 subs and I'm lucky to get 100 views on a video.
 
Those people might have done sub for sub r other things like that, making them have subscribers that aren't active on their videos
 
I think the reason for this is that there are a lot of people who either subscribe to channels because of one video, have so many subscriptions that they just can't watch every video released, or they do sub4sub. There is usually a combination of the first two on every channel, but the third one is just despicable. I see channels who have 1,500 subscribers, but their most popular video has just over 700 views. If you see a channel who's most popular video has less views than their number of subscribers, you can immediately tell that they do sub4sub. Those are just my thoughts though.
 
We've noticed about 10% of subs for views is good.. its a pain but people don't go on youtube all the time.
 
This is a problem I've had since starting YouTube. I've always had only a fraction of my subscribers watching. My most popular videos often are viewed by a lot of non-subscribers, that never convert over to being subscribers either.

Currently my average of views per video is 148 (give or take). Many of my videos never get more than 50 views, while half-a-dozen have gotten over 1,000 views (my top two getting over 4,000 views each). I currently have a total of 1221 subs and only 16% of then subscribed by watching one of my videos. The other 84% subscribed from my channel page, and may have never watched even one of my videos. Why would they subscribe then? That's anyone's guess.
 
This happens for most people! But it all depends on who your viewers are. For me, I have quite a few inactive subs due to the videos I make while a smaller gamer wont because most of his viewers will be other smaller gamers who aren't growing....so yeah, it all depends!
 
I think it's very normal, subscribers don't tend to watch every video and a lot of them are inactive. I have 1165 subs and usually get about 300 views a video unless for other reasons such as promotion or it being a good search term, etc.
 
there are many reasons behind it.
-the creator of the channel might have stopped making you tube videos so their fans lost interest but they still are subbed to them.
-over here sometimes people sub to you because they think you are a nice person on the fourm, but they don't really watch their videos... i'm guilty of this
-sometimes they have bots on their channel
-they might have reset their channel (deleted all videos and started again)

however most of the time people just like to sub to them... maybe one of their videos blew up.
 
It takes us nearly a month to get as many views as subs for a new upload, but some videos outperform others. I think once a video has gone to page 2 of the new subscribed video list, it's unlikely to get watched.
