I know its a few month late but I have only just found out about it.

I wasnt big into rick rolling but it just goes to show that even if you have had a video online for over 7 years and it has over 70 MILLION views that you can still have strikes get you.

I tried to post a link as my source but it wont let me :(.

The first video used in the prank, it was uploaded on an account called cotter548 and the record company who hold the rights to it flagged it and requested it to be removed lol. A rough estimate of those 70 million views with adsence enabled could have earned that guy around around $112,000. Not bad for something started as a joke lol.

Even before it was taken down, I doubt he actually received any of that money. It would have been claimed by his record company IMO :)

It would be interesting to know how it works. I dont know if they can claim it or if they are only able to flag it and have the vid removed.

The copyright owner can agree to let the channel keep the video uploaded but the ad revenue goes to the copyright owner.
