Opinions on Programs I'll potentially be using

Fraps shouldn't be used if you can get bandicam. The file size of the videos from fraps is horrible.
Although you would have a smaller file size using Bandicam, it takes a lot of CPU usage...to the point where the PC may stall, not to mention recording to your HDD at the same time.
Just like Bandicam, OBS takes CPU usage as well but is fairly efficient and does it all for free. Now if you have limited HDD space and CPU, your best bet would be an Avermedia like capture card were all the processing is done externally. This not only allows you to record for one system but multiple. Finally, as I have suggested to many, you could use OBS or Xsplit to stream to services such as Twitch or Ustream and do all the recording off site. Sure, you'll be using some CPU but at least the HDD is left alone. Just test and see OP.

Btw OP, what are your specs? :)

I'm away from the pc, but I have a picture of the parts list my new PC has. PC Part.jpg

Coolio OP,

You will be fine with those specs. Try OBS out with it, with 720p settings (1280 x 720,30 FPS, quality of 8, with no CBR encoding) and switch it to the manual kbit stream and start at a thousand and raise it a thousand every time and record. You should have some pretty good footage. If you have worries regarding OBS, just check some of my vids, I use it all the time.

You will want to acquire a second hard drive if using FRAPS though it's good to have one for other things as well. Recording to the same drive you're playing a game from is a recipe for framerate drop.

I have 2 and an external. Gotta thank my brother for being a computer wiz for that!

They may run at lower RPMs so check that out. Lower RPMs are hell for recording.

External is 7200 RPM.
Internal #2 is also 7200 RPM.
The other hard drive I'm having trouble getting. But my PC is custom built, and runs everything perfectly fine. My brother hosts live streams with a group, and he had no trouble during the stream, besides the regular twitch lag.
