Offered a custom URL for Google+ but need help

WolfWraith

I Love YTtalk
So I finally got offered a custom URL for Google+ but I need to know; if I "add a few characters" will it effect my current YouTube URL (the youtube.com/wolfwraithgames or the youtube.com/user/wolfwraithgames) or will I have 2 x URLs for YouTube + the custom Google+ 1? I guess I could just add "Games" to it like with my current URL but it's Google+ & I don't trust it to not screw anything up.

Also will it effect my currently Google+ links in descriptions as well as my current YouTube URLs linked in descriptions?

Here's one way to get your actual channel/user name as an URL:

1. Chance your name and remove the last three character (e.g. "WolfWraith" to "WolfWra")
2. Claim your custom name
3. Add the last three letters ("ith")
4. Your custom URL will be your actual name without the "add letters" nonsense

WARNING: Google only allows you to change your name every so often. Three times per year or so (I'm not sure; please check that). Be sure that you haven't changed your name recently!

So will this effect my actual channel name though, or just my URL? If so I could just add "Games" to it since that's actually what I want my URL to be "/WolfWraithGames" as it already is on YouTube. I want my channel name to remain as "Wolf Wraith" with the space.

Google + URL is just the URL for your Google + Page, you can't change your YouTube URL until 500+ Subs.
I already have a custom URL for my YouTube account, I made my account long ago when you didn't need the 500 subs. The Google+ URL offer seems to want to change my YouTube URL for some unnecessary reason.

Nope.
I got the same thing on my Linda Starling account.
And that only has 15 subs.

So it changes both.
I have the link https://www.youtube.com/c/lindastarling
Ah that's going to be problematic for me, I don't want to lose the user/ style URL since it's the URL which shows up when I actually click my channel name and the same that applies to many other channels. With the /c/ style if you click your channel name it displays random letters which just creates more hassle if you want to copy your channel URL with ease. I tried /user with lindastarling to see if it'd still work as well, it takes you to a completely different channel :S I was really looking forward to a custom URL for Google+ because it looks hideous linking those random numbers.[DOUBLEPOST=1436798051,1436797710][/DOUBLEPOST]Interesting, with /user it's another channel, but just youtube.com/lindastarling it takes me directly to yours, but still might be an issue for viewers who click the channel name and see random letters + numbers i.e. UCnAMXEt_VIOfjD-SFLFhLyw is what I see when I click Tommy's channel. Now I'm on the fence, about it. >.> I want it to be as easy as possible for people to remember the URL if the visit the channel by clicking on my name in a comment or via a video.

Well, you also get random letters if you click on a channel you are subscribed to on the left on YouTube. (Or clicking on "My Channel")
I have https://www.youtube.com/tinylunchboxgamers, https://www.youtube.com/user/tinylunchboxgamers and https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCY32w3odT6TzXSOT6w45oXg

I just had this problem and found the solution.

1. If nobody else has your channel name (important), go to the "about" section of the Google+ page and click to change your channel name.
2. Remove the last three letters, save it, refresh the page,
3. Create your custom url which should now be your channel name minus the last three letters. Add the letters back as those "extra characters" they want.
4. Add those three letters back into your channel name.
5. ???
6. Profit!

Well, you also get random letters if you click on a channel you are subscribed to on the left on YouTube.
That I'm not so fussed about, I mean people shouldn't have difficulty finding your channel if they're already subscribed :P I'm just thinking more towards the future, sometimes people search a channel name or even via the URL if they remembered that because of a specific video. It's how I used to do it at least. I could risk it and wait it out to see if Google will offer people URLs just for their Google+ pages.[DOUBLEPOST=1436867407,1436867310][/DOUBLEPOST]Also @TaxOwlbear out of curiosity, is there any reason it has to be 3 characters? I might try your method on my other Google+ page for my other channel, although it may be problematic, because my watermarks are all for the old URL :S

This is so annoying and stupid. I'm not changing my url right now because of that. Hope they will stop forcing us to "add a few characters" soon"...
I did find it odd, considering that when YouTube used to allow you to make custom URLs before 500 subs, you had to have a unique URL and now they're asking for a few characters to make an already unique URL unique...
