O.m.g. Advertising Tactic

So, yesterday I went out and tried the ol' advertising tactic that it seems like people just shove away because it takes too much time. Well yesterday, I spent about an hour and a half looking at all these people's videos and checking out their channel and leaving a nice comment on them about the videos, and I also mentioned very casually that if they have the time they should come check out my channel, and by far this is the best method of advertising. I got 3 subscribers in one night! And not everyone has even seen my comments yet, so I hope to get more views later on. And also it can be a good way to get yourself out there, find new people to watch, and make friends :) I just wanted to tell you guys about this to at least try it out once if you have disregarded it in the past. It might not work well for some people, but it has so far for me. And also, watch the entire video! You might find something you like about them, and plus, if you comment directly on something about the video the comment seems much more genuine. I would've put this in the milestones thread, because I'm only 13 subscribers from 100 now, but I figured I'd wait til I actually reach 100

It can be a good way to advertise, yes. But 90% of the time the subscribers you gain from this won't be active, and are only subscribing to "return the favour".
Yeah, that's kinda what I figured might happen. Although idk. I just hope they're subbing cause they like my videos, lol.

I think the nice comments are a good idea, but I don’t like to see people requesting others to check out their channel. It just always seems like spamming to me. I am not saying it doesn’t work or that there is anything wrong with it, I just don’t think it’s a technique that I would use.

You didn't stumble on anything new, it's called networking. The reason most people don't do it, isn't because it's time consuming. It's because they don't know what they're doing.

You need to be careful about this though. I know whats accepted among the YouTube community changes frequently, but way back in my early days or YouTubeing this was frowned upon to the point of people full on ignoring the channel. That mentality is still with me though I do I take the time to normally click someones channel who posts on my comments. So I guess it can go both ways....

I think people may see it as a tactic. You may want to genuinely check people out and give them feedback/good comments but for me, the moment someone adds "hey check out my channel" I feel like they didn't really care. Also, unfortunately people will leave comments even though they haven't bothered to watch your video some times so you're hampered by that too.
Hopefully these are great subs. If you continue to ineract with them they may turn into really engaged subscribers.
