Not so free video editing software

Windows Movie Maker.............................
ROFL!!!!
And yeah with all these people agreeing, especially since it's supposedly similar to use to imovie, I'm pretty sure I'm going final cut. Though I'll have to get it from amazon, not the app store, I have a 200 dollar gift card :) :)[DOUBLEPOST=1368240347,1368239067][/DOUBLEPOST]Woo hoo!! For Mac:

Final Cut Pro 7 - Pretty advanced, and might be beyond the Call of Duty (punny) of what you are looking for. It is iMovie on steroids essentially. It is a professional video editor (I believe iMovie still annoying makes you import the entire clip and it takes a few minutes depending on size? FCP7 can insert video, and you can cut out what you want, and only render (to play) the pieces you want. Much less hassle). FCP7 Studio (or it might be standard now) comes with a few other applications. You can research these, but Motion, Aperture are the ones that I remember. Very handy for what you use them for.

Final Cut Pro X - $200 and a little more basic but still an incredible application. Everything above although I think processing speeds and accessory applications of FCP7 don't come with it. I would recommend this. Most bang for your buck.

Adobe After Effects - I wouldn't say this should edit video solely on its own, however, it is a step up from iMovie, and can create amazing videos (color corrections, keyframing, renders, filters etc.) Wonderful app that I use along with FCP7.

For PC:

Sony Vegas (not sure which version) Pretty much FCP7 of PC, even though this came first. Can't say too much about it due to the fact that I have never messed around with it. I heard that it isn't too user friendly, but once you learn it, you'll enjoy video making. Let's just say one thing: It is infinitely better than Windows Movie Maker :p

Hope this helps you out!

Note: I put PC option not because I can't read OP and see he's on Mac, but in case someone else stumbles on here :p /TrollsNoTrolling :D
Couldn't have said it better.

Its a natural progression and very easy to pick up after using imovie.
