Not announcing the giveaway winner?

So I came across this channel and the girl was doing a giveaway the rules were very similar to any other giveaway you can find on youtube , but the thing is that she said that she won't announce the giveaway winner coz she doesn't want to get hacked blah blah O.O . So I was like wth -.- lmost everyone I know (even big youtubers) announce the giveaway winners , she just said that she would inbox the winner. BUt I don't know it sounds fishy <.<

Has anybody come across something like this? I would like to enter the giveaway but it doesn't really sound legit O.O

ok glad to know I'm not the only one who thinks so plus she got asked on Twitter by somebody who won the other giveaway she did and her reply was something like "If you didn't get an inboxmessage then it wasn't you" , so yeah ... -.- sigh
 
It's actually against the rules not to notify the winner first via email. Otherwise you can use the announcement to get people to watch your channel and YouTube doesn't want channels to leverage their influence in that way. So it's perfectly normal not to make an announcement of the winner, but the excuse about getting hacked is very sketchy.
 
It would all depend on character I guess. Some people would give it away, others would think "Now I don't have to give it away and can get more subs"
 
This is why I don't trust 99% of giveaways on YouTube. It's sad, but many people use giveaways as a way to gain exposure. Most of the time the person who "wins" the giveaway isn't even real, or it's one of their friends. A lot of the times they don't even give away anything. They say they do, but there is no proof of them giving anything away.
