This forum says it's the "#1 Community for every YouTuber", not the "#1 Community for every Monetizing Partner". Some YouTubers want advertising, some do not. The door swings both ways.Exactly, maybe this guy didn't realize what forum he was on...
If people like ads, then you've got nothing to worry about. If people don't, then you can't stop them from closing your ad, closing your video, or using an adblocker. As a YouTube partner, you are not permitted to encourage your viewers to click your ads. Which means the majority of people will not view your ads with a conscious understanding that they are supporting you because you're broke. They will just think it's another annoying advert. We WANT people to have ads, we WANT to watch them to SUPPORT them.
I recently reluctantly gave in to monetizing one of my videos for the sole purpose of obtaining custom thumbnails. To my understanding, you have to have a minimum of one video monetized. I didn't want to interrupt my regular viewers, so I monetized a video that was not related to my usual content. Still, I'm not sure I feel comfortable with it and might try and turn it off and see if I can still keep the custom thumbnail option.
You are thinking of YOU. and only YOU.
Well I'd like to think I'm thinking of my viewers. I try to treat them with respect by not cramming unsolicited ads down their throats with every video, and by not exploiting their loyalty for a few measly cents in a tin. If someone I subscribed to made a video saying they could use some cash to keep their channel running, then I'm definitely inclined to send a few dollars through Paypal. I would prefer that than having them spam me with ads, and chances are a $5 donation from one subscriber would be more than they make off a single video in 6 months.
