New YouTube Layout: Your Thoughts?

That's kind of a rude response. "...people should just shut the hell up..."?

Remember that it is the user who created YT in the first place. It is the user that keeps them in business. I agree that we should increase the quality of content and make things better. I am working with several people right now to completely revamp my channel and its content. All of my current stuff will be going away to be replaced with an entirely different type of content.

Yes, it is free to upload, but it is not free to put your time and effort into buying equipment such as cameras, lights, backdrops, greenscreens, editing software, microphones, etc. in the hopes of getting partnership and maybe even making some money.

The majority of users simply want to have googletube listen to the user. If you make the user happy, production increases. Just like any business, you don't increase income by ******* off the people who make your company possible.

I understand that it does cost to edit and get camera equipment. But you also have to think about how easy it is nowadays to get a camera that has HD or even a cellphone that has a camera that you can record videos with.

This just like when facebook changed to timeline people hated it then got used to it and stopped complaining. I'm not sure if you seen when people from youtube did an ama on Reddit how horrible they were in giving responses to questions asked it'll teach you a lot.

But overall google is monetizing the hell out of youtube and making a good amount I'd suppose.http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/1526uu/we_work_at_youtube_and_were_involved_in_the/

Thanks for the response. I agree, however, I've put in a lot more for profssional equipment, so the cost is much higher than a vlogger who uses a cellphone or a webcam.

I know change can be a good thing, but that's why I say we should encourage others to make the change and see the benefits rather than give them even more reason to complain. I'm not sure if you're a partner or not, or if you are doing well with your channel, but when smaller or newer users see or hear partners or bigger channel owners telling them to shut up, the complaints get louder and the partner/channel owner gets negative videos made with their names mentioned. Not a good way to get more subs.

Anyway, thanks again, and I will check out the link you sent me.

I didn't mean to come off as big headed youtube partner which I'm not yet at least. Just more so I feel people are wasting energy on the whole layout thing.

I understand bro. No offence taken or implied. I just find that I make more friends with good words. In essence, we were both making the same point, just in different ways.

Here's one of the YT changes that affected me in a bad way: I worked hard over a period of 3-1/2 years to get my viewcount to over 500,000. According to analytics, my lifetime viewcount should be at 519,383 as of right now. However, because of recent changes, YT erased a crapload of views bringing my count as of this moment to 304,540. This is because they decided it's a good idea to delete views on deleted videos.

My viewcount will lose even more very big numbers when I delete much of my content to replace it with my new projects. I believe this is part of the reason why I got turned down by Fullscreen just a couple days ago when applying for partnership. They mentioned something about low view count in relation to subscribers. So 215,000 views deleted may have cost me.

Anyway, I'm rambling....the point is, change can have a bad effect, but we should still be encouraged to move forward.

After 6 days on the new layout, the only conclusion I can draw so far is that viewers will click on the videos. Every single video featured on the new shelf system has seen a healthy increase in views per day. The nice part about that is you can see (on a 30" 2560x1600 monitor) 19 videos without having to scroll down as opposed to 5 on the old layout. So it should lead to a very slight view increase. Our subs and views have increased, but the change isn't big enough to attribute it to the new layout. The implementation of the new layout is still a major pain. You still can't simply choose a playlist to use a shelf. You have to tag the videos and then create a custom tag based shelf instead. For all the hype about playlists, it seems like it would be a good idea to just let us use a playlist without having to tag all the videos in that playlist that we want to use. You also cannot easily change the order of the videos on a shelf. So customization of the new layout is much more difficult than it needs to be. The biggest issues are the small size of the featured video for subscribers and the inability to choose what we are featuring. They could easily make the player a bit larger by eliminating the Recent Activity portion or the You Recently Watched portion (both are duped elsewhere on the page). It would also be nice if it auto-played, but that only happens for non-subscribers for the trailer video.

I don't have any issue with the way it looks. It hasn't hurt us at all, which is a very good sign. When the frontpage layout was unleashed, we suffered for about a month before figuring out how to take advantage of it-there seems to be no learning curve with this change. Setting up a page is very frustrating at times. It seems to be set up by someone who never ran a channel before. Hopefully the shelf issues get fixed by the time they roll out the new layout to everyone.

Thanks wreckless. That's a lot of good info there. I wish YT would give us a "practise" channel or something so we can be prepared LOL

Anyway, I will keep this all in mind as we only have 8 days until the change.

It's pretty easy to undo changes and you can always press the magic button to switch it back to the old layout if you get stuck.

If you have external links that you want in your banner, get them approved now. While you can have up to 10 external link, only 1 can be unverified, so it's an effective limit of 1 until your other links are approved. Thankfully social media doesn't count, but we were forced to choose between our shirt store and our website for the unverified link.

So if non-subs go to a trailer video, do subs still go to a featured video? Probably a dumb question, but....

Im sorry for this to happen to you and you have inspired me to later on make a video about how when a user deletes a video the views go with it once deleted. Try harder and i wish you the best truthfully i had to send like 3 requests in order to get partnered with fullscreen and i would say im a medium sized channel but trying to expand thats my goals and GOOD LUCK!!!
