New YouTube Layout: Your Thoughts?

So if non-subs go to a trailer video, do subs still go to a featured video? Probably a dumb question, but....

No. It goes to a "what to watch next" video which you have no control over. Youtube chooses that video for you and the system is flawed because it only counts views from my desktop-so videos that I've watched on my ipad and phone are being recommended even though I've already seen them.

Im sorry for this to happen to you and you have inspired me to later on make a video about how when a user deletes a video the views go with it once deleted. Try harder and i wish you the best truthfully i had to send like 3 requests in order to get partnered with fullscreen and i would say im a medium sized channel but trying to expand thats my goals and GOOD LUCK!!!
Thanks Tonio. I will try again in about a month or so once I get some more videos up. By then I should have another 30,000 views or so.
I just can't believe how many people I've seen get partnered by Fullscreen who have less than 15,000 views and barely 100 subs, and somehow I got turned down :eeks:
Oh well, I'm doing ok with adsense, though not as well as I would like. Hopefully my new content will do the job.

That really sucks! I guess that means I will lose my current deal then with videoblocks. They give me free membership and I give them the featured video spot. They won't like not being featured. Guess I'd better start downloading all the stuff I can from them so when they cancel on me, at least I will have some great stuff!

After 6 days on the new layout, the only conclusion I can draw so far is that viewers will click on the videos. Every single video featured on the new shelf system has seen a healthy increase in views per day. The nice part about that is you can see (on a 30" 2560x1600 monitor) 19 videos without having to scroll down as opposed to 5 on the old layout. So it should lead to a very slight view increase. Our subs and views have increased, but the change isn't big enough to attribute it to the new layout. The implementation of the new layout is still a major pain. You still can't simply choose a playlist to use a shelf. You have to tag the videos and then create a custom tag based shelf instead. For all the hype about playlists, it seems like it would be a good idea to just let us use a playlist without having to tag all the videos in that playlist that we want to use. You also cannot easily change the order of the videos on a shelf. So customization of the new layout is much more difficult than it needs to be. The biggest issues are the small size of the featured video for subscribers and the inability to choose what we are featuring. They could easily make the player a bit larger by eliminating the Recent Activity portion or the You Recently Watched portion (both are duped elsewhere on the page). It would also be nice if it auto-played, but that only happens for non-subscribers for the trailer video.

I don't have any issue with the way it looks. It hasn't hurt us at all, which is a very good sign. When the frontpage layout was unleashed, we suffered for about a month before figuring out how to take advantage of it-there seems to be no learning curve with this change. Setting up a page is very frustrating at times. It seems to be set up by someone who never ran a channel before. Hopefully the shelf issues get fixed by the time they roll out the new layout to everyone.

Really i'm kind of nervous to tell you the truth about the new layouts but i just hope i can easily understand how to make my customization on it the way i want, who knows if the move will be good for my channel i work alone as a individual which i spend numerous amounts of time with my content planning and such. I have heard it will be released on the 22nd of this month i guess and you can tell youtube is updating with new changes because video playback is still an ongoing problem right now.

I think the best you can do is get them on the first shelf.
