New vlog channel needs help with topics

BrainDead Werx

Loving YTtalk
So I decided to start a vlog because a lot of my subs told me it would be cool. I decided to make it into a second channel instead of using my main channel (it was an idea, not sure how good of an idea it was... At 0 subs again). So far I've come up with topics but I am not great at coming up with ideas on the fly and since it is a weekly vlog I figure I'd try to spend some extra time on the topic...

I talk about video games, advice, facts, technology, and other random stuff. What do you do when you get ready to make your next vlog?

Well if you can't pick a topic and form insightful commentary to entertain and engage your audience. I would have to say vlogging isn't for you.

Though topics really depend on what you're into. Video Games, advice, facts, technology, etc. Find things that you legitimately take interest in. Ever roam Kotaku and find an article concerning a game that catches your interest? Bookmark it, read up on it, make a video about it.

That's all I can really say. Personally I have a series where I give my thoughts on all things video games (they are my "Afterthoughts" if you will. hehe.) and I pick a topic, script it out, and make a video based on the many different things that the topic does to contribute to video games.

Definitely just find things you're interested in. You'll be a much better vlogger when you do that. Also, daily videos are practically a requirement for vlogging channels. So try to find something new every day :P

Have fun! ^__^

It's not that I can't find topics, it's that I want to improve my system to improve my videos and channel.

I pretty much do that already, except I hit up like IGN.com or PCGamer.com, or go straight to developer websites to get my info.

I just want to be able to write a script and do a video worth watching, and as of right now I'm going without scripts and just speaking my mind. I think if it was scripted it might be more controlled and easier to view.

Well there's a variety of ways you can script your videos. Personally I script all videos I make. I otherwise ramble too much when it comes to making videos around certain topics.

So scripting can be fine. Just make sure you don't sound too incredibly dead when doing so. I'm trying to get around that problem as well.

I go straight to the developers btw :P You'd be surprised how many of them respond on twitter.

I write a script every now and again, not for my YouTube videos but for other things. A good tip is not to write it word for word but jot down the topic of each sentence or paragraph.

The program I use is www^celtx^com however notepad or the Mac equivalent are also good but just less 'professional'.

And I have an idea for a topic you may not have thought about, perhaps you should do a video featuring your opinions on solar roadways ( www^indiegogo^com/projects/solar-roadways#home )

Super pawsitive is right, if you can't carry out an insightful conversation vlogging might not be for you. I mean you could use a script, but I don't think it would have the same feeling of realness. I just keep a list of topics near me, but I would never use a script. Good luck with your vlog, I think speaking your mind would be better, but do whatever feels right to you

I guess script is the wrong word because I realized @JackPlus is like me, I jot things down. It's not really I can't hold a conversation, I just need topics and a way to refuse the urge to ramble. I have been basically just jotting ideas down lately. Not really a script, but something I can look at to keep me on track because I'll begin talking about how competitive games influenced my life so far and I'll bring up an example and I'd go on a tangent on explaining the video game, and explaining the weapons, all the while leaving the main topic.

I think you have helped me realize what I needed to do. Solar Roadways is a topic that I have been reading a lot about lately and most likely will be my next vlog topic. I want to get the pros and cons down. And yeah, if you are nice enough, developers have gladly talked to me and given me small tidbits of info. It's not really a script I needed, I know that now, just a way to keep me on track.
