"New videos every Monday" et. al. really turn me off

I only very recently updated my banner to say "New Videos Every Week!", purely because the actual upload day will depend on what my schedule is like. But it shows anyone viewing my channel that I'm committed to what I'm making and I'm aiming to release regular content for the people who like me enough, heh.

I've never personally had any major strong opinions on it, tbh. I know it's useful and it's good for promotional purposes, but I've never ever felt inclined to unsubscribe or been put off for that one thing alone. To each their own, but it seems pretty silly, if you ask me.

I personally don't announce a schedule. Here is why I don't. Anyone else can choose to do what they want.

1. I don't have the time to make a video every week. I also recently lost my filmmaker as he moved. :( I have to film everything myself

2. I don't have time. Yes I said that before, I run a film and entertainment business. I'm always running around like a chicken with my head cut off filming various things for other people or companies and making commercials, documentaries etc.

3. If I posted a schedule and something happened where I couldn't meet that schedule I think I might lose subscribers. The only thing I think that's important is if you can at least have 3 or 4 videos a month with occasionally 5 or 6 as an added bonus that is pretty good. If I can't even do that then I wouldn't even have made a YouTube Channel

I'm kind of resurrecting this thread, but it's to say that I also find it annoying. It's not that they are keeping to a schedule. It's not even that they are announcing what the schedule is. It's just the way they are saying it! Maybe it is because EVERYONE words it that way. Maybe it is because it is a blatant advertisement that doesn't follow the tone of the rest of the channel. Like a voice on TV exclaims, "HUGE EXPLOSION AT THE NUCLEAR POWER PLANT!" and then a calm, canned recording voice adds, "Tonight at 11." That one would actually be funny, though. Or maybe it's because no one can predict what is going to happen in the future, and it is annoying to see someone so matter-of-factly state what will happen like it's already a given. I don't know, but I can relate.

My videos go up every weekday at noon, but that's because I already have months of videos uploaded and scheduled to be published. And I don't say anywhere on my channel how often I upload, but if you check my video schedule, it says at the top "Videos are uploaded when I finish them and scheduled to be published at a later date. Videos are published 5 times a week, every Monday through Friday at noon Pacific time." But that's because it is at the top of a video schedule, which is meant to be a more business-like thing. It would be out of place on my channel where the theme is anything but business-like.

I only do it for a certain series. I only post a video related to pokemon every Friday and every other day is just whatever gameplay I have. I feel that it helps because it helps bring in a new audience. Those people that came for that one video might take a look at your other videos.

cool old thread. i find it bizarre anyone would not like this or at the very least not care

if your new to the channel then its cool to know when the channel makes new videos. if your already a fan you can see when the next video is. simples

only reason i don't have one is because i am too lazy and might not always want to make a video lol

I don't mind at all. I'm putting up 2 videos a week on my comedy channel but they aren't on consistent days yet. When they are, I'll make it a thing.

I genuinely think it's ultimately about the TYPE of channel. If you're doing a series of let's plays I think consistency is very important, compare that to a comedy channel (an actual funny one) then people just look forward to a new video and they don't care that it's late. I think if you're providing (or over providing) value, then people will watch regardless. That's based on my observations and basic understanding of psychology.

Woo hoo. Knocking the dust off! You have said exactly what I couldn't put into words before. Did you ever see the movie, Idiocracy? "Brought to you by Carl's Jr." That's what it's like. If a channel has enough content and you can see how often it uploads, then you don't need anything.

Of course it's new videos! Would it be old ones? Maybe a funny banner would say "old videos in the playlist until I delete my account"

There's thousands of channels where it must have never been next Monday because the last upload was years ago
