im testing something on G+. I'm posting a GIF since they play automatically and linking to the full video, I'll see how this works and let you all know

Sounds awesome! I still need to try that G+ stuff you told me about via PM, haha.

That being said, how are you making your Gifs? Any easy way? How are you linking them, just HTML mask on the image?

I tried this method a couple times ages ago, but it didn't stand out compared to any other method.
I would assume for stuff like animal videos it would be far more effective though.

Well I got about 32 +1s within an hour, but the video didn't get many views during that time. I think people just assume they saw everything in the GIF. I'll have to play with this though, I'm sure if I make a GIF that has something where it is leading up to some event and then cuts off, they will watch the full video to see the results.
 
Months ago I experimented with posting a gif on reddit with a link to the full video in the comments. After about 12 hours, I got about 4 youtube views and the views of the gif (on IMGUR) were around 3,400. At some point, I should try it again. A sample size of one doesn't give you much to go on to draw any decent conclusions.
