New Requirements for Custom URL

I just found out about this, as it's quite new. I made a channel for another game a while ago and had no issues with the URL. Now I've seen that you need to have over 500 subscribers, among other things, to get a custom URL on a new account. This is a huge hindrance to me as I was just about to start a new channel with my brother for some daily video logging.

Sure, I could build a brand with no custom URL, but it's very annoying as I will have to tell people "go to YouTube and search "_____" instead of telling them to go to youtube.com/______. I might just buy a domain that automatically redirects to the YouTube page... Might be a good idea.

Anyways, anyone know a way around this besides waiting out the time limit (before you can make a custom URL) and buying subs?

Just to add onto what I said, Bitly links also track link analytics. So, if you really want to know how many people click on said link. You can easily find it. Very useful in my opinion.

I'd rather just buy ____.com instead of using bit.ly.
It's just very annoying that they've made the requirements, I don't really see a reason. If the issue is too many channel URLs being taken because of channels that get abandoned, they should make it so the URL is freed up for future channels if the page isn't active (aka no new uploads after X time).

The problem is the revenue you could lose if you allowed anyone and everyone a free URL. They'd rather see those links on a channel sending them ad revenue.

I dunno. I'm personally a cheap person. So, bitly is much more reliable to me than a site. Though I do own the url /superpawsitive on YouTube either way. So, it doesn't necessarily matter.

It doesn't cost money to give a URL out to channels.
youtube.com/anything-you-want-here costs $0 to make and is an automated process so it's not like man hours are being used either.

The only issue I really can see is that too many custom URLs are being taken by dead/inactive channels. It just seems random to me. I wish they would have at least have an option where if you have X subscribers on a YouTube account, you can get a URL for other channels you make as you've somewhat proven yourself to be a successful YouTuber.

I just do youtube. com/sickmind33. It's wayyyyyy easier for me personally

The issue with this is that now you need 500 subscribers to create a custom URL. See here for more info.

Edit: Sorry for adding you in there, Geeky. Only meant to include Sick.
