Over the past few months, I've made a few violin cover videos of some pop songs. I'd like to make more, as well as start to share my original music, but I have a few questions about licensing, copyright, and monetization.
Recently, I've been working on some original songs and accompanying videos. I'm wondering if it's a good idea to keep this content separate from the cover videos, in a channel dedicated to 100% original content, in case I ever have copyright/DMCA/takedown issues. I've heard a few horror stories of people losing their channels from copyright claims on public domain music like Bach, let alone the copyrighted music I'm covering, and separating content across channels seems like the best way to mitigate the risk of losing everything.
It also seems like joining a network such as Fullscreen, which offers licensing for cover videos, would be a good way to protect my content and make the most of any potential cover video successes through monetization. If I do go the route of joining a network, would I be able to keep a separate, un-partnered channel for my original music? (Fullscreen's website does not seem to offer any concrete details about their contract terms. Please let me know if I missed this information somewhere. Also, do they publish information about what songs they offer licensing for?)
I know I have barely any views/subscribers and am probably getting a bit ahead of myself with these questions, but I want to make sure that I set things up correctly from the start so that I don't run into major issues after building a channel.
