New intro videos - InVideo Programming

WolfWraith

I Love YTtalk
A very welcome feature, it only allows 3 seconds but that's okay if you want to change your intro to something newer without having to let your old videos suffer with the older intro. Figured I'd post this here for people who don't check the channel settings that often. http://youtubecreator.blogspot.com.au/2014/04/boost-your-channels-recognition-using.html

For those who don't want to read the blog instructions are here:
  1. Upload the three-second intro video you’d like to use to your channel as an unlisted video.
  2. On your channel's InVideo Programming https://www.youtube.com/account_featured_programming, click "Add a channel branding intro" and select the intro from a list of eligible videos.
  3. Select which videos you want the intro to appear on. You can choose whether to add it to all of your videos, or just the ones you’ve uploaded after a certain date. You can always remove or change the intro later.

wow that is really cool! Too bad my intro is 8 seconds, and it already exists on most my videos.. :/ hopefully There will be an option for a 10 or 5 second intro later, and to select to have it placed only on certain videos

Yeah this is actually 1 of those times where Google has made a feature that's a step in the right direction. 10secs is too long too. They should only allow for a maximum of 6 seconds. But yeah they should allow it for individual videos too, so they need to add it to annotations or something. That way if you want to have playlist specific intros you can. If they can adjust it a bit more I can see this being a very beneficial feature, cause an intro is meant to be a brand but if you change your intro it effects your older videos that are stuck with the old intro. This system allows you to keep your brand fresh.

yeah 6 seconds is perfect, and your right this is probably the first good change google/yt is making. hopefully they will ad more things like branded end cards that you can add to your videos.

Not the first good change but out of a lot of their recent changes, this is 1 of the good 1s. Although the good changes are so rare now days I can't remember the last 1 I liked.

That's an awesome new feature! With a few tweaks it could become pretty amazing. I think they're trying to make more common YouTubers look a little more slick.

Yeah, I tend to avoid intros on my newer videos cause I can't make anything decent, and when I finally do or get something decent I can use it. 3 seconds might not be much but I can work with it for now, TotalBiscuits intro only goes for like 1-2 seconds and it gets the messages across very, very well.

That's an interesting feature. I stopped using intro's because I want to get right to the content. But if I wanted to, feature would be handy.

I can see some people using it for other features but...

Note that these intros may not be used as ads, sponsorships, or product placements. We also don't recommend this feature be used by channels using their videos as advertisements.

I doubt they will increase it by much. Shorter intros = higher audience retention.
Yeah that's why they should increase it to 6 seconds at maximum it would allow for the slightly more complex intros.

This is why I think the feature needs some more tweaking so that you can enable it only on certain videos. They didn't really mention what they meant with that recommendation too, like as in whether it might mess with the ad or whether the intro won't display on the ad, if it's the latter that's fine. I'm willing to give this feature a shot just need to work on a 1-2 second intro first.
