Need your thoughts.

Hey guys. I have just opened my cooking channel.
I've got a a few questions, hope you will give me your thoughts.

What is the best place to promote such kind of videos?

I'm planning to upload new video every other day. Do you think that is a good "speed" for the beginning?

Today was the day when i had to upload my first video. It's been already 9 hours of uploading and just 71% is done. Just wondering if anyone else had such a long experience of uploading?:unsure2:

That's a long time to upload! It usually doesn't take that long with my videos.

I think uploading every other day might be okay, so long as you are confident that you can keep up with that schedule. I personally would find it a little bit daunting and would worry it would tire me out, but if that's an accomplishable goal for you, then go for it!

Promoting your channel in places where people who want to learn how to cook would be a good start. Also, starting with your friends and family, and your own social media channels would be good.

I think if you can keep the schedule then that is fine but if you think it may get overwhelming then I wouldn't do that much. I used to do two a week but with work and family and everything I just couldn't do 2 and had to drop down and that doesn't look good to subs who get used to having that many a week. But as long as you stick to it then it's good. And that is a long, long time! Mine upload very fast. Usually take maybe 2-3 minutes sometimes like 5 minutes if it's a larger video, but never anything like that. That seems extremely long.

My audience is quite a bit different then yours. I post as often as I can with no set schedule. This is a fun hobby for me and picking quality content and making better videos is 100% more important to me then sticking to a schedule. The more rules I put on myself, the more this turns into a chore for me. The 2 things that made the most difference for me is choosing content that no one else is doing, as well as proper SEO. I barely promote my vids and they are getting 50-100 views per day. Twitter and facebook are bringing in very little traffic. Google communities is good if the group is there for a purpose and not just spamming their own videos. I don't reddit. Not saying those are bad choices, they just are not worth the effort for me.

9 hours and its only on 71%? Are trying to upload the RAW video? Cause RAW video (depending on length) can be GB's big!!

Try putting your video through a video rendering software to compress it into a smaller file size while maintaining its quality. It should decrease your upload time significantly.

As far video promotion the best thing to do is join communities who have the same interest as you but not just on YouTube on all platforms including Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Google +, Tumblr, Reddit etc.

Handbrake is good for compression and is free... just do some research on which settings will work best for you and watch the video after compression to make sure it looks as close to the original as possible. I would also advise that you listen to the compressed video as well with good speakers or even better, quality earphones to make sure the sound is also good. Once you've tweaked the settings to your satisfaction you can save them as a preset. It can reduce your upload time considerably and is most useful if your videos have a lot of static space where nothing changes such as the wall behind you or the counter top etc. Handbrake is also great for reducing pixel noise.

I don't use it much for my nature scenes but for my daughters toy channel I use it all the time.

As for where to promote your channel, the other posters advice is solid. Find communities that would be interested in your content and interact with them. There are loads of them devoted to cooking. Don't just post your videos though... most communities will welcome your videos but only if you contribute to the community and are not seen as a spammer.

Good luck with your new channel and have fun. It takes a lot of endurance to grow a new channel and it helps if you are enjoying the creative process. :)

Finally I figured out why video was uploading so long. 8GB ..have no idea why it appeared to be soooo heavy. The most of my videos are about 2 GB. Is it still to be too much?

Yeah..i think i can keep up to my schedule. This channel was not a random idea. I've been working on making videos for a month before opening channel. =) Hope I won't lose a passion for it too fast lol

Guess I'm gonna ask everybody the same question. How long did it take you to get 100 sub?

No, that was not RAW file but mp4 i guess..maybe mov. But still size appeared to be 8GB.
I'm sorry if my question will sound stupid, but how does reddit work? I used to press "reddit" button under the video but have no idea what happened then.
