Need some advice about advice I received

Thanks folks. I am still in the "I hate my voice" stage so I tend to not watch my videos after I edit upload. lol

As others have noted, that is just TERRIBLE advice! If you're playing a character, then obviously you want your persona to depart from your reality. However, in what you are doing, being genuine and real should be your #1 priority. Viewers will pick up on someone who is being "fake" and the fallout won't be good. Be yourself and you will find a LOT of people will really like you and enjoy what you're doing.

If I might offer a little more, unsolicited advice: Really try to come to grips with listening to your own voice on your videos. I know it's awkward at first, but there is no greater learning experience than an honest critique of yourself and your performances.

I remember a LONG time ago (I'm way old) when I first went onstage doing standup. I rehearsed and rehearsed, got my material down cold, went on stage full of confidence...then completely freaked out when I heard my own voice amplified and totally screwed up my act! :bounce:

It took me awhile to figure out that, no matter how much outside advice I got, nothing helped more than watching my own performances and being honest with myself about what was good and what needed work... That first stage endeavor was an easy one: 99% needed work; 1% was good. (I gave myself the 1% because when I introduced myself, I got my name right. )

I agree, doing somezing ur not comfortable with as a creator is meaningless, it may get you views, but you won't be able to keep it for long. Take me for instance...I could NEVER pretend to be a human! eeeuuugh!

It depends on how you are looking at it.

That advice sounds interesting and I can see the potential of a funny channel based on that. Telling someone to put on an act to grow their channel, in itself, is technically not "bad advice". There are many channels, now and in the past, that based almost everything off of acting and faking a role.

From what you've explained though, this advice does not sound good because it goes against your morals and respect you have for yourself. If you aren't comfortable "acting" in front of others and showing yourself, don't do it.

Everyone on here is right! Don't let the fact that he has a lot of subs influence you to change. If you want to have people genuinely like who you are then you can't try to fit into some "ghetto" mold. Just because you're black doesn't mean you have to be "ghetto" anways, that's just silly! Good for you for realizing that the advice was just bad. Best of luck to you! :D
