It is definitely a good way to go about it, the only stuff I dont touch unless I have to is PHP, JavaScript, Jquery etc, I can code and design sites well just not the underlying PHP, I leave that to CMS's for now at least.

Do you own many sites? Do you generate an income from any of them?
 
I only own three right now and one is for sale. So at the end of the month it will be two, obviously of that two YTtalk is one of them. I have owned many more in the past but some were sold on as the niches just weren't very interesting with me growing up and they were more for younger people.
