I think if I ran that kind of channel I would try just being honest with my viewers...have a video called 'I got nothing' and tell them that you've got no ideas this week and there will be no video except for the video explaining that you have no ideas this week. With the right personality and delivery you might be able to pull it off and it might actually end up being funny/entertaining. Of course, you might only be able to get away with that once (unless you made it an ongoing series...called 'writer's block' or something...hmm)I just felt I needed to upload something to maintain a schedule.
Thanks for this! That absolutely didn't occur to me, even though it seems so obvious now. You rock!PS David..you're killing me...you have a "Top 5" style video and you don't have "top 5" in the title? People love "Top X" videos...the next one you do you should make sure to put "Top 5" in the title ("Top 5 reasons Teen years are better than adult years"). Instantly better chance at getting views. Anyway, sorry for getting off topic.
I think I just need to be more open to adding mistakes to a video, I always edit them out, but it can be funny when you cant pronounce a word or get a sentance out without stuttering or saying it wrong haha! It's normal to be critical of your own work, and usually one's favorite videos are going to be something you did in the past that you've grown more fond of over time, (although sometimes I look at my older stuff and cringe).
You should challenge yourself to keep things fresh. One thing I've noticed about your videos is that they are very talky. Nothing wrong with the way you talk, but audiences in general watch better than they listen. So you might want to consider the old writing maxim "show, don't tell". YouTube is a visual medium so ask yourself what you can always be showing the audience. That way while you're talking people can see different things and stay visually engaged.
Some people use lots of props, close-ups, or even just pull faces and do quick edits to keep things visually fresh. You want people to not want to miss a second of video for fear they'll miss something cool or fun or exciting.
Now in practice it's not always possible to show something exciting every second of video but I think if you keep asking yourself what you can show rather than just tell, you'll be more satisfied with your videos.
Start collecting those little mistakes so you can compile them into a blooper reel down the road. It would probably be funny.I think I just need to be more open to adding mistakes to a video, I always edit them out, but it can be funny when you cant pronounce a word or get a sentance out without stuttering or saying it wrong haha!
Im mainly a beauty/fashion and 'vlog' youtuber, not follow me around vlogs but like.. 10 things I hate about ____ and stuff like thatWell, firstly, don't stress about it so much. It's totally normal to go through a "dry spell" and you seem to be putting a bit of pressure on yourself. Looking around in this forum is helpful for me, so is watching movies and videos and seeing what you can glean from them in regards to theme or what you'd do differently or even what they did wrong. Look at everything in front of you and see how that could be made relevant to your viewers.
If nothing else, do a challenge. You seem to be a beauty/fashion channel judging by your signature video, so maybe the blindfolded makeup challenge?
