My VidCon 2014 Experience

Not a single person recognized me even though I have a high-ranking channel LOL
Not my demographic =)

I agree with most of your perceptions. I'm looking for more of an informational experience rather than a fan/creator experience. That being said, it was nice to see YouTubers taking pictures with orderly fans.

That could be a good thing, you could just point all the fan girls away from you :D That would make a really good event, only creators with X amount of subscribers or views permitted tickets.

That's also known as every single industry event that isn't vidcon, sitc, or playlist live. There's probably over 1000 events just in the US geared toward industry and creators. Vidcon is special because it lets the fans in to participate and industry (even with those horribly overpriced tickets) takes a back seat to the fans. There simply isn't any need for yet another industry only event. All of those events are the same-with the exact same speakers and the exact same speeches-they become boring if you attend enough events. That's one reason I never opt for the industry track at Vidcon.

Got you, I see what you mean, I thought perhaps there could be one solely for creators to meet creators like a large networking event or organised party even.

i was looking at your channel and its pretty good! how long have you been doing youtube on your main channel

Sorry, I guess I didn't see your post til now. Thanks, I've been been videos on the main for a little over a year.

I don't know if this counts but there were special guest lounges and the VIP parties I mentioned. Those were more laid back though and not officially structured for networking but I did see it happen often.

Yeah something similar to that is what I am thinking. I picture if YTtalk was to have an event for members only it would be like that, getting to know each other in person and networking and arranging things with each other, a more sort of serious event for collaborating etc without any fans present, fully for the creators but not necessarily including the industry speakers etc more like having the creators speak and such. Could be interesting :D

Pretty jealous you got to meet both Mitchell Davis and Natalie. I was on the lookout for those two the entire time. I had standing requests from two different people to say hi to Natalie.
Also I'm pretty sure I saw you wandering around a couple times.
I also may or may not have been analyzing the video frame-by-frame to lookout for people that I know.

  • If you're a guy and dress fashionably, girls will think you're a youtuber and not a fan.
  • Swoozie was the most dedicated one there, doing a meetup for over 13 hours straight. Still even talked to me afterwards and told me he slept for like 15 hours afterwards from exhaustion. Dude wasn't even invited, paid for everything himself.
  • Twitter follow exchanges and cell number exchanges happen way more than business cards exchanges.

1. Guess I wasn't dressed quite as fashionably as I had hoped I was
2. Dude, Swoozie stood in the same spot for the entire day for at least the last two days signing autographs. I never saw him move out of that spot. I did have him talk to me a couple times. Myself and a few others were hanging out with Catie Wayne at the time so he appointed us her bodyguards, told us to "protect her." It was pretty funny.
3. I only did the app card exchange with like, two people. I had way more people find me on Twitter.

Sounds worse than what other people had made it out to be. I had considered thinking of going but I had to see how it went this year through other peoples experiences and videos. Turns out, I'll never go LOL. There was only like 4 or 5 YouTubers I'd be interested in greeting and shaking hands with this past event anyway. Don't even get me started on some of the fangirl-YouTuber stories either. I didn't really believe that there were guys other than Onision and like 2 other YouTubers (blanking on their names) who do take advantage of their female audience until I heard about the Hotel Rooms.
