Here are a couple tips for collaborating with other YouTubers.
1. Make sure you have a couple ideas before you ask. As a YouTuber it's hard enough to do all of your own work, let alone coming up with ideas for someone else. You are the one asking, so make sure you have an idea before you approach.
2. It never hurts to ask. No matter the size of the YouTuber it never hurts to ask if they would like to collab with you. But keep it professional, and follow through with timelines, etc. Make sure you have things in place, because the bigger you are, the busier you are. Also you don't want to burn bridges. And let me tell you, if you don't follow through, it's unlikely that I will want to work with you again.
3. Know your collaborator. Does it make sense for you to collaborate? If you do Minecraft let's plays and they do beauty videos, is that the best fit? You are trying to build your audience, so know their audience also. The other thing you need to be mindful of is their network and other possible contracts. If they represent a brand or other entity, there may be limits to what they can do. For example, if they do family safe videos and you "f-bomb" every 2 seconds, it may not be a good fit.
Collaborating is one of the best ways to grow your audience, but being picky, informed and prepared will make your time worth it in the end.
