Possibly, I haven't looked on Amazon I am talking about 'in store' prices, so it is likely cheaper online!
 
I don't think suggesting any XLR microphones for him atm would be wise. He would need to purchase an additional phantom power supply or a mixer board that would have phantom power on it. If he had a way to power them already that Behringer C1 is a nice mic for the price.
