Biggest thing since the wheel!
Hey guys, so I just quickly wanted to make this to share my experiences with branching out into different types of content. So quick back story: I've always been a vlogger from the start of my channel and a little while ago a created a second channel in order to make gaming videos. One day I decided to close my second channel and put all my content together; I did this because of some advice that was given from a larger youtuber. I was extremely scared that doing so would kill my channel as I've read some horror stories going around. But I'm pretty happy to say that it has only made my one channel better and my subscribers happier.
I do want to make sure and say that I did lose about 20 subscribers when I posted my first gaming video. But I pretty much immediately gained double that from the new audience that I was reaching. Also, I didn't just post the gaming video right away; I made sure the worn my subs about me trying to branch out into different content at the end of one of my regular vlogs just so that it wasn't something that they weren't prepared for.
Now that they know that I have lots of different things coming in the future, they are asking for when my next "new" type of video is coming out. They have been trying to get me to release my music, short films, etc. This has been a very successful transition for me so far and I wanted to make this post because I see a lot of people on this forum asking about making new channels for new audiences. IMO all making new channels really does is split up your audience; I think that it is easier to just keep all your stuff on one channel for them.
I will probably come back to my old channel for bloopers, extras, vlogs that I don't want on my main channel, etc. But for now, I will be growing my main channel as much as I can. And lastly, now that I have the time to spend on only one channel, I've been able to really improve my content with the time I have. I'll post an update in the future if anything changes.
Thanks for reading.
