Hi.

I am in the process of making a short film. If I use a cover for a song (instrumental version) with permission from the cover artist would this get flagged or is it legal?

It would eventually get flagged or might get claimed by third party peeps. If you wanted to monetize on it, they might ask for paperwork or verification for permission. And usually the permission they ask for is from the actual artist (publishing peeps) who performed and/or wrote the piece, not just from the Cover artist. It's difficult to say if they would allow especially if it is a popular song.
