Music policies

Posting Mad!
So I have just found out that Youtube has a music policy section in the create section of your Youtube where you can search any music and find out what policy it has. A lot of high profile music is allowed to be used on Youtube as long as you do not monetise it as they will monetise it.

Why does no one use this feature? I get why the people who are making their living off Youtube couldn't give away a videos earnings, but smaller Youtubers who are wanting to build up views would greatly benefit with having popular music in their videos. I am certainly going to use this feature moving forward instead of looking for non copyrighted music which is really hit and miss (mainly miss)

If you didn't know about this then see this as a tip, I didn't know about it.

Yes i agree that this feature should be utilized much more than it is. I didn't discover it until i got hit with a copyright claim for music that i used! I could have sworn that it was public domain, so i just searched it up using this feature and sure enough it was! I filed a dispute and won, so this feature saved me from a strike!

what do you mean? You disputed it saying it was available under the music policy section?

Many of the high profile music is forbidden in certain countries (Germany for example). So if you are OK having your video forbidden in certain countries than fine.
Also the copyright owner can always change the permission of use. So you never can be sure that your video will stay on YT for another day.

That's true, as far as I know they are not bound by any agreement and could change their position at any time. I would only trust well known musicians who publish their own music officially under a creative commons license or if I could afford to, then I would buy rights to good music through a reputable royalty-free sound library.

Exactly! I simply do not like the idea somebody else to control your videos on YT and to decide in which country it will be visible and in which one not.

PS. They could improve a little bit the YT music library by including rhythm rate filter for example. "Happy", "sad" definitions they use are extremely arbitrary.

Good idea! That would be a great feature.

We're building up a collection of royalty free music which we categorize in folders on our hard drive (from trusted sources) that we refer to all the time. Only problem is we have our favourites and I tend to over-use some of these which could also become an irritation for some.

In my opinion it might not be that good to use music that monetizes your video. The reason is you have no control on what type of ads to use and some people don't feel like waiting 5 seconds so they can skip the add and watch the video. They might even have to sit through a 20 secound add and in this case some people will just close the tab instead.

I hadn't even thought of that. Non-skipable ads would be a disaster! Not sure if they have that option but of course even if they don't now, doesn't meant that it will remain that way in future. It's tempting, but too many unknowns for my liking.

That is very true, I think I am inclined to say it is worth it though IF the video became extremely sharable. I really do not like non copyrighted music and it makes me stop watching peoples videos these days.
