Multiple YouTube Channels???

I've got a channel that only has music covers on it right now. I've also recently made another Channel in which I was thinking of doing vlogs, rants, and some other random stuff.

The Music Channel is much more "mature" than the new one as it has more subscribers (not a lot though, only 88) and content.
Growing two small channels at the same time seems counter productive so my questions are:

Should I focus on growing one channel?
Should I merge the two channels into one (post the vlogs, rants, etc on the music channel)?

My concern with merging the two would be it will make the music channel seem inconsistent and niche-less.

What are your thoughts, tips, advices, etc?
Thanks in advance :)

Growing 2 channels is possible. As long as it works for you time wise and you really enjoy what you are posting on both channels. On the flipside its also okay if you put the vlogs, rants etc , on your music channel. Variety is welcome in most scenarios just maybe explain to your audience whats going on and you may change stuff up a bit. If it doesnt work for your liking/standards then stick to 2 channels idea.

Thanks for your input. I guess I'll have to re-evaluate my schedule as I'll be going back to university soon and that just makes everything harder.
Another plus side to merging is that it'll be easier to have my non-music content reach viewers. Whether they'll like it or not is a different story.

I would not merge the two channels. People subscribe to SINGLE-topic channels. If they get too many off-topic videos from a channel, they will unsubscribe. Never give them a reason to unsubscribe.

I would recommend you look at the two channels as "main" and "support". Your main channel is your music channel. Keep it pure. Put only music videos on it. Your other channel can be a support vlog channel to further develop your main channel fans. Dump all non-music onto the second channel. Even when the non-music videos are directly related to your music channel, such as a milestone video. When you hit 1,000 subscribers on your main channel, make a milestone video for that BUT put it on your support channel. Always promote your support channel at the end of your main channel videos. You shouldn't promote your main channel on your support channel but should do a different call-to-action that will move them up the ladder of fan engagement.

As for your main channel getting 83 subscribers, people can usually get to at least 100 from family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers (or fellow students) alone. Once you hit 500+ subscribers, you will then definitely be moving past your extended network.

I don't suggest that you have 2 channels with a low sub count. You should be putting all of your energy into one channel. Also why not have vlogging and music in one channel? Having the vlogs in between the covers is a good what to stay constant with uploading.

@Jack Decker You're right! Majority of the 88 subscribers are real life buds. I'm trying to get past that leap!
@ProductionPeople1 You're also right, I should really be focusing and building one channel.

Thanks both of you for the awesome insight! I think what I'm going to do is just focus on the music channel for now and perfecting my craft. I'll worry about the support channel later (if I ever build a fanbase).

Cheers (:

That's the best idea. I only suggested a second "support" channel because you seemed to want to do more than music. If you're fine with just music, yes, it would be better to focus on just one channel.

I agree with most, focus on the one channel, build an audience and then give the option to those existing subscribers to check out your second channel.
