Motivation

Oh no Stef... Don't feel down. How is the studying going? I know I get very depressed when I feel overwhelmed with school work. I don't care much for the new YT but I still find it exciting for people to watch my videos and leave me comments. What made you start? Think back to then and maybe you will rediscover your motivation :) <3
comments... MMMMMMM

Great question! Sometimes motivation is harder some days than others. For me personally, I love creating the content. I love creating a piece of art that I can be proud of. Of course I love the recognition when its received well, but that's not something I rest on. I teach a lot in my videos to improve what you can improve about yourself, I feel that's just like life. If you create videos looking for likes, comments, etc to feel good, then your happiness and motivation can be very volatile. I've had plenty of flops, and they don't get to me that hard because while the good comments make me happy, the bad ones don't affect my motivation personally.

As for what do I hold on, what is my goal that keeps me kicking? Freedom to do what I love. Freedom to be able to go wherever, do whatever(within reason), and not have financial stress because of it. The 9-5 used to be the American Dream, now I believe its not. I think the dream is being your own boss and having absolute freedom.

The views, likes and comments are nice but, that's not really why I do it. I make videos of what I'm doing or interested in at the time so in a sense they are really for my own pleasure. Months later I'll watch a video about something I did or a place I visited and enjoy them again. the first videos i posted (which are no longer up) were for my extended family members in other towns to watch so that they could see some of the stuff I did at work (I'm a pilot). I thought that if I found it interesting there would be other people out there who would find it interesting also. It just grew from that. the big surprise was when I got an email from Google asking if I was interested in monetizing my videos. I had to do a search to find out what they were talking about. My most recent external motivation was a viewer contacting me. He used one of my videos for his business and offered to buy me a nice camera for my videos. I use my phone to make my videos so I was flattered but politely declined his offer.

Whhat gets you motivated? I have almost zero motivation to continue on with my channel. I'm not sure if it's the changes to YouTube but it doesn't feel the same for me.

My videos help every day people going through real life experiences. You gotta have fun doing it. Do stuff you want to do, not the 50 billionth remake of the Harlem Shake. Do what you are interested in.
