Hello,

I have a question its about donation and the thing is I have a channel wich i have written permission to upload their content but not to monetize their videos. So my question can I ask my subscriber to give me donation because I am running this channel? Or is there a connection betweet that, that content dont belongs to me so thats automaticly means,I dont have rights to get money from my subcribers because the videos dont belongs to me.?! - As I sayed,I have permission to use but not to monetize.

would be nice if someone can help and know a little about that.appreciate for helping

thanks

I don't know if it is allowed or not. But what I do know is that begging is the easiest way to loose a lot of subscribers.

There are some big YouTube channels that use "begging" services like Patreon or Subbable. Granted, the channels that are bringing in a lot of money through these sites are putting out some very good content and not some random Joe YouTuber asking for cash.

Monetizing videos and getting fan support are two different things. Intellectual property owners can dictate what happens with their content but not your channel.

Actually they can. If it's part of the agreement then he have to abide by it. For example, IP owner may say that you can use the property as long your not a commercial entity or doing any commercial activities. Asking for money could be considered a commercial activity, and may require a royalty or flat fee license. If the agreement is well written it should define what a commercial activity is. You see this a lot with business software licenses. I'll use Microsoft Visual Studio as an example. For those not familiar it's a software development environment.

Microsoft has released Visual Studio 2013 Community Edition. It's free to all individuals and some organizations. For organizations they have additional restrictions with what they can do. Here is summary off of there website: (https://www.visualstudio.com/products/visual-studio-community-vs)

Q: Who can use Visual Studio Community?

A: Here’s how individual developers can use Visual Studio Community:
  • Any individual developer can use Visual Studio Community to create their own free or paid apps.
Here’s how Visual Studio Community can be used in organizations:
  • An unlimited number of users within an organization can use Visual Studio Community for the following scenarios: in a classroom learning environment, for academic research, or for contributing to open source projects.
  • For all other usage scenarios: In non-enterprise organizations, up to 5 users can use Visual Studio Community. In enterprise organizations (meaning those with >250 PCs or > $1 Million US Dollars in annual revenue), no use is permitted beyond the open source, academic research, and classroom learning environment scenarios described above.

He would have to check the agreement he made with IP owner.

True, some of the folks I subscribed to have used crowd funding for numerous things. But even they have lost subscribers due to the fact they asked for money. I think it is a massive gray area, and YouTube is trying to close that gap with their own donation (aka fan funding) service. Unfortunately it requires google wallet instead of being linked to your adsense account (which would have been smarter and easier).
