Monetizing Compilation videos - what possibilities are there?

Hey,

so I found a niche for a certain kind of compilation videos that did not exist yet. (It's not the usual boring "funny videos"/"Funny fails"/blablabla stuff. It is something new, that turned out to have a HUGE audience.

I created one of these videos 2 weeks ago and throughout the last week it went insanely viral, beyond all my expectations. Now I am watching the 6 digit views raising and raising with no stop in sight, as well as my subscriber amount. I would love to keep producing more of these kind of compilations in exchange for some ad revenue benefit.
However, the videos used in the compilation are random videos I found on Youtube. (By private persons exclusively though, not by TV stations or anything like that). So I doubt I can legally monetize the compilations.

However, as said, this is not "just another fail compilation" channel. This is something new that turned out to have a huge audience and huge potential. I am sure sponsors/networks would see this as well.
So how do I go on about this? I am also very scared of someone with more experience stealing this concept and then accomplishing what I would love to accomplish with it: earning some financial profit out of it.

Get permission from your sources , slap togeather make money.
I just contacted all of the original videos owners. Waiting for responses now.

Do you have any experience with this? How do people handle this usually? Do they charge people big amounts for usage of their videos?
I will try to stick to videos of small/random youtubers in the future obviously.

You posted it without their permission? If you're lucky, they'll agree for a little credit and exposure, but it would well be within their right to issue a DMCA take down notice, have your video pulled, and possibly land you a copyright strike. Or, they could instead choose to demand an outrageous fee for using their work. Good luck.

The first and most important rule is to actually ask for (written) permission before you post someone's work, ideally detailing exactly how and where you intend to use their footage, what they would receive in exchange for it, and any time limitations.

As for what they will charge, that's completely up to them and what they feel is fair. Some may ask for a quick credit or mention in the description/ comments, others may want monetary compensation, and there could also be people who simply don't want their work used/ shown elsewhere no matter how much compensation was offered.

I see compilation videos everywhere and all appear to be monetised.
Normally the creator advises their audience that they are not their original content and offers links to the original videos.
I have created compilation videos myself and have kept the usage of each video to under 15 seconds and have so far not been flagged.

This is what made me wonder...
Monetarized compilation videos are all over the place and many of them are up for years, with (what seems like) no copyright strike.

However, this might also depend on where the (re)uploader lives. After some research I have seen quite some people mention the US-American "fair use" law regarding this exact issue. They claim it makes it all okay as long as you only use parts of the original persons user and make something new (a compilation) out of it. I really have no idea how accurate that is though.
