I think it's a good idea if they do it the way Twitch.tv does it. The channel owner has the ability to make people moderators solely for his comments section, not only would this help get rid of the pointless troll and spam comments but if all those are gone then bigger youtubers are more likely to read their own comments sections :D
Wow, this makes a ton of sense. The person and can get rid of them as a mod at some point too, right? If so, then I love this idea.

YouTube/Google is a business and the amount they would need to fork out to hire people to remove the hateful/promotional comments would be a 100% loss. There is nothing to gain for getting rid of the comments, and so they let the YouTubers manage them.

No because you would need millions of moderators, and that would cost a lot of only that youtube could keep as profit, :) btw what happens when a channel/video/ comment is flagged, who deals with that?

I think it would be a good idea for comments on videos, maybe on videos that are rated under 18, but they would need a whole load, there's millions of people on YouTube lol

Larger channels don't really need moderators. Their fans will moderate the comment section and flag the post if someone gets out of line. If someone tries to troll on our channel, the comment is usually gone in a matter of minutes because our fans will take care of the issue on their own.

For small to medium sized channels, you should be able to police the comment section as you see fit to create the environment you want for your fans. That is going to mean different things for every channel, so self moderating is the best way to go.

this is what i meant[DOUBLEPOST=1378147841,1378147481][/DOUBLEPOST]Ok i understand people have been confused as to what i meant. i was meaning as in the owner of the channel gets to choose mods. so that they could moderate that one channel

I think it might be a good idea especially for small channels. But if you think twice about it than youtubers and commenters have that power because they can mark a comment as spam.
