Microphone problem that is driving me crazy!

Turn your gain down. Windows recording settings, drop it to 50%. Do a test recording session. You'll need to adjust how you speak to make sure your voice is loud enough to be properly audible. A noise gate is a terrible idea because it will cut out any quiet words as well as the end of words as your voice tapers off. You may need to go above or below 50%, but just play with it.
