Microphone Help

Well, ultimately when you're just doing podcasting you only need an interface that has one XLR input. I only technically needed one XLR myself, but I bought a mixer with 4 plus quarter inch jack inputs. So now I can use multiple mics as well as plugging my guitar in and I have extras in case any of the input lines fails for whatever reason.

On the quality side of things, my only caution is that I'm not using the AT2020. I use a Shure SM7B which is quite a bit more pricey and I do a reasonable amount of audio editing. That said you can get exceptional quality from the AT2020 as well.

what type of audio editing do you do? besides make it fit and changing the volume so it's not to loud?

My usual workflow is Normalize, Dynamic Compression, Normalize, Noise Removal, Mastering. With EQ handled by the mixer. I have 3 audio editing tutorials on my channel, one for Audacity and the other two for Adobe Audition. I don't use Audacity anymore because Audition is better, but Audacity is free so it's of benefit to more people.

that's a ton more then I expected xD

It sounds that way. In reality though, Adobe Audition remembers the settings used previously, so it's just a matter of running the tools which takes all of 3-4 minutes after recording it done. It's all about automation since I record in the same room with the same acoustics and background noise every time.

@Tarmack cracks me up I decided to get the mic and as soon as I put it in my cart it went to $81 bucks because the $50 seller ran out of them so it upped to $81 so now I shall wait lol

@Tarmack I have a quick question. Ive seen other versions higher then the at2020-at4040 but I saw this cheap at3050 but its been out forever, is it better then the at2020 by chance? and i'm assuming it will work with any audio mixer like the one you mentioned?

Edit: I noticed also that the 3035 is discontinued

@Scobalula maybe you might know too?

I've not used the 4040 myself or the 3050 so I can't really comment on them. Any XLR mic will work with an XLR mixer. It's the standard for audio processing, similar to how headphones all use the same port in MP3 players.

Well I ended up getting the 3035 for a pretty good price on ebay $112.50 and I haven't see anything but good comments so on it so hopefully!
