Microphone for DSLR

So, I am getting a 60D and I have figured out the lens I want and all of that stuff, but I haven't really thought much about a microphone. What do people recommend? I have heard Rode it good, but I don't really know much about mics at all.

Sorry if there is another thread like this, I searched but all the threads were for game commentary, and I have a vlogger set-up. I film inside, but I would like to be able to film outside as well.

I don't have one personally, but I can definitely vouch for the quality of the Rode mics. Well worth the money, and even the least expensive models are good build and sound quality!

Defiantly get one. It will make a huge difference to the audio in videos. I am also thinking of buying one myself soon. If you are looking for cheap and used you can go for ebay.

Depending on the kind of thing you're going for lapel mics are good for getting your voice in, and you remove the worry that you're too far away from the mic etc, but these are usually quite expensive.

As mentioned able, it depends on how you will be filming yourself.
The Rode mics are very high quality, but do you want a fixed mic or a lapel mic, ie. one that you clip onto yourself.....??

I found a lapel mic best for my uses and went for an Audio Technica ATR-3350. Was pretty cheap from Amazon, but I think it gives me good quality audio. I use it for all my videos now and have never had any complaints, I've actually had compliments on my audio setup!

I use a Rode Videomic Pro and it's really good quality sound. I haven't used it outdoors yet, but it supposed to be a nice zoom mic. The only thing is that it's mono and not a stereo mic. It also takes a 9V battery, which is supposed to last around 70 hours.
