Dynamic mic (no phantom power required) plus XLR to Minijack adapter. Problem solved.
 
Not a bad idea, would be fairly cheap too.

IMO the biggest problem the DSLR or Camcorder crowd will face with a proper mic is that the minijack port isn't designed to support the weight of an XLR cable. Some camcorders have an XLR port, but not many. You usually need an extra piece of kit but if you can rig it so that the weight of the cable is managed by the tripod or something else, then you should be fine.
