Making sure you are in focus

Hi guys,

when filming videos by yourself its quite hard to check wether you are in focus. I have a can 70D with a flip out screen but its still quite hard to see the screen.

Is there anything I can buy so I can check?

I have a Mac Book, is there some sort of software you can download?

thanks

Surly I want auto focus?
If you're walking around than you need auto focus yes, (semi-)professionals do it the manual way though. If you record stationary (like me) I use manual focus.
Better cameras have more tracking points and do a better job than cheap cameras, better lenses also focus faster than cheap ones.

Put something like a lamp in the spot you plan to be on video, have it right where you expect your head will be, and focus your camera at the lamp, (on a 70D use the magnifiy feature to make sure it's completely sharp) then there you go, I often use lamps or other objects as my stand-in while I am setting up a shot when shooting by myself

Look up the app DSLR Controller, turns your smartphone into an external monitor and gives you some control over the camera. The only issue is getting the right cable.

I have a 70D. It's hard to tell when it's in focus. >.< I've filmed a lot of out-of-focus videos. lol! The latest tactic I've been using (that has been somewhat working), is focusing the camera on my hand and turning auto-focus off. I hold my hand back to where I'm going to sit, tap the screen to focus on it, and then turn off the auto-focus. ^^ Sometimes I forget to turn off the auto-focus, and I end up recording a bouncy-screen video...oh well. =/
