I can imagine that being difficult to shape though

It does get tedious, by depending on how much paint you add and stuff can give it a certain texture. For clipping onto your nose, you could use a small clothes pin.

In regards to the earphone prop, (or any of them really) try taking already existing stuff you have and adding other things to it and painting it to make it look like what you want. You can also try EVA foam mats. Although they take a little bit more work, the results are quite impressive. Another is pepakura props. An example of one of those can be seen in our Harlem Shake Attack video (the helmet is a Halo Reach Helmet).
