Making music covers

Right now, I have 8 covers posted.
When I upload a new cover, it will say (sometimes it takes a few days) "Matched third party content" in my Video Manager.
Clicking on the "Matched third party content" will lead me to another page that tells me what I should do.
I have only ran into two scenarios so far:

First scenario:
I'll have the option to acknowledging the copyright or fight it. Of course I'm going to acknowledge it.
This usually just means the owner can put ads onto the video and you get no revenue from it etc.
After that, my video would say "Acknowledged third party content" in my Video Manager.

Second scenario:
I'll have the option to do shared monetization which means the owner gets a split of the revenue earned.
You should also notice that on the copyright page it says "If you agree with these conditions, you don't have to do anything".
So I just leave it as that.

As of now my account status for community guidelines and copyright is in Good Standing :)

That's my experience with covers, hopefully it was helpful!

Edit: You could also check Copyright Notices under Video Manager of Creator Studio

Double Edit: There may be more legal stuff to deal with if your covers ever blows up. I don't know how that stuff works as I am a small YouTuber.

I wonder who does work any music cover network like 'we are the hits.'
It all sounds fab, but If I grow my channel I still want to be free to make what I want.

I really would love to make cover videos once in a while. But I don't really know what steps to take to do that in a legal way. I see cover videos come up every day and I wonder how they do that without getting strikes and banned from youtube.
Anyone experience with that?

Tammy, There is a free YouTube Network you can join called "We Are The Hits" I confirmed they are legit via Sony in an email with their Vice President. Basically you upload your cover video to We Are The Hits and they claim the video for you and they give you a percentage of money for the song based on the YouTube ads. They have a list of songs you can use. Over 3 million.[DOUBLEPOST=1442282572,1442282465][/DOUBLEPOST]
Does anyone know if I join 'we are the hits' with one of my channels it counts for both of my channels?

Sorry I didn't see this before. lol

If you use two channels you just have to make sure We Are The Hits does not auto upload your video. Once you upload your video to We Are The Hits you will get an email when it's ready. Simply upload to whatever channel you want.

We Are The Hits pays everyone in bulk based on the revenue they receive. They pay per song per account.[DOUBLEPOST=1442282628][/DOUBLEPOST]

You can make whatever you want with We Are The Hits. They don't restrict your content. You can mix it up however you want[DOUBLEPOST=1442298833][/DOUBLEPOST]

I just spoke to their support team and they are looking into getting sound recordings approved for lip syncs etc. Also they mentioned to me that a Parody needs to be cleared with the publishers and writers and then you can upload. So how these people are doing parodies is beyond me. If you are earning money from a parody and using the whole thing like Weird Al does you need permission according to We Are The Hits

@offbeatbryce
How does it works when I want to make a coversong. Does 'we are the hits' also has a music library to use from or do I always have to my backings and instrumentals myself?

Sorry for all the questions but the website is very fague if you aren't a member.

Once you make an account with We Are The Hits you are given a list of over 3 million songs you can use to cover. You have to create you own music from scratch.

Once you select a song from their database, you upload your video to their website. You can choose to upload it automatically to your YouTube Channel which takes about 15 min. If you have more than one Channel you can opt out of auto upload to your channel and you will receive an email when your video is ready to be uploaded to YouTube.

SomeTimes it takes a while for We Are The Hits to claim your video. Once they do they monetize the video and pay you once they receive the money earnings from YouTube.

These claims on your videos do not affect your channel status and you won't be given a strike.

Essentially it's the same thing as copyright owners putting a third party claim on videos only We Are The Hits gives you the license once they've claimed your video.

You also earn keep ownership of your video.

Do you have Skype? I'd be willing to talk to you more about this if you have anymore questions.
