Made a boo-boo - wrong mic!

So i was recording earlier and when i was editing, i realised i didnt select my proper mic in audacity so it used my pc's default one so my vocals sound a bit s****y and in some parts its hard to hear me.

What would you do? Restart the gameplay and record a new video, or put an apology clip at the start of the video warning people about the audio and saying sorry? or just scrap the commentary?

Did this once with my webcam mic... Posted the vid anyway and apologised for the sound quality, nothing else I could do :(

Depends on the length of commentary and type of the game.
Possible things I recommend you could do in some cases:
  • Are you doing a series where it is important that you show your first impressions? Then you're probably better off with apologizing. Bad sound quality is not as bad as fake first impressions. Examples for this are horror game, an RPG, or something like that.
  • Do you make something where first impressions are not important? Then you could easily record it again, and probably that's the best way to handle it in this case. Examples are probably reviews, vlogs, or anything that fits in this.
  • Do you make something where the first impressions are important BUT you can easily load a new "run" of the game, so it is different. Then again recording a new video is the best way here, since the first impressions of the new video will be still first impressions, just not the same you recorded. Examples are procedurally generated games, where it generates for every run, so Binding of Isaac, and other random generated games.

Thanks man, really helped. It's a series so I'll just apologise. :)

I would redo it. I hate it when please have crappy audio and apologize for it. You're putting out a product that people want to see. Nobody wants to sit through a video with bad audio. If it's bad, don't be lazy. Fix it or scrap the whole video. You don't want to p**s off your viewers. If it was your favorite TV show, I think you would be p****d off too if it had crappy audio.
