I've Got It
Hi,
I want to buy MacBook Pro 13-inch that I will use for editing.
There is a choise beetween 2.5GHz Dual-core Intel Core i5, Turbo Boost up to 3.1GHz processor and 2.9GHz Dual-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz.
The price difference is $150. I want to start editing with iMovie but eventually buy Final Cut Pro. Do you think I will need the faster one to keep up with the software?

I have the 2.5GHz Macbook Pro, and it works wonderfully. I use iMovie, though I never used FCP before, so i'm not sure how exactly that runs. I'm sure it will run just fine, considering everything else my computer has runs good.

Well I should say had... I currently don't have a computer because my dog ended up peeing on mine and fried the insides lol. D:

inb4 everyone annoyingly tells you to get a pc.

The i7 would be beneficial for Final Cut, but for iMovie, an i5 is a nice choice. I guess it's a toss up haha

I would spend the extra money on the faster processor. You may not need it now, but it helps future proof you since you can't upgrade the processor. 4k footage is getting more common-expect to see it in cell phones in another year, so spending a little extra now can shave hours off rendering time when you get into the good stuff.

Waaaffles!
RIGHT?!

I was in the kitchen, and I left my laptop on the floor (I know it's not the best spot, but I've done it many many times in the past), and I came back and it was drenched in pee! I tried everything I could but it got inside my laptop and it's ruined :( It won't even turn on anymore. Luckily my girlfriend let's me use her computer. I don't know what I'd do without one haha.

Okay so I guess I'm buying i7, thanks for your help!
I am so so sorry for the dog but it really made me laugh :D

I'd tell you to buy something more powerful, just as sleek and not made by Apple...oh well.

So what would you recomend? I just though I try Aplle since my previous computers were huge dissapiontments :D

I have a macbook and it works swimmingly, but if you are going for for heavily edited stuff you would want to increase the ram and maybe upgrade the processor while you are buying it.
But this is from someone who uses it for after effects like software, so of course it crashes on a laptop :-D

I haven't upgraded the ram and I have a 2011 Macbook Pro 11-inch i5 and fcp-fcpx work well, be it a bit slow at times :)

Honestly though, if you want to go a cheaper route. Get a mac mini, buy everything else like the screen, more ram and cables with it and it means you have a good desktop. And its the only mac apart from the Mac Pro that is upgradeable after purchase! (apart from macbook pro and its ram).
