do you know what software they use BTW? because they just say editing software and there is a huge difference between a cheap sony vegas and the pro lol

I haven't been watching their stuff for a while, but I remember a color correcting/grading episode they did which focused mostly on Final Cut Pro's 3 color wheel and how to use Video Scopes.

They also did an episode all about how to film using a iPhone - so I'm willing to bet they do the majority of their work across After Effects and FCP.

I don't know but I'm going to take a guess that they use premiere pro and after effects, they mentioned after effects in the last clip with the giant so I'm guessing they use premiere pro alongside it :)
 
If you do get After Effects the best place to learn how to use it is videocopilot.net

Whenever I get stumped on effects work, I can usually find one of his free tutorials to help me through.
