To add to your point, I think using YouTube as a means to earn a living would be difficult if you relied only on adsense. That being said, if you open up other streams of income with your channel (e.g cold calling & finding sponsors yourself, selling merchandise, etc), then your odds of earning a living increase.

you got to be kidding me, sponsors only want youtubers who can gain subscribers everyday and are getting over 80k of views. trying to sell merchandise only has a youtube does not go well, you lose a lot of money making them then earning them and if theres no one buying them at a reasonable spending then you lose money. so as you see its never a good idea to be only a youtuber the only way to be successful at youtube is by being successful yourself.
