Low budget HD cameras ? Canon Ixus range ?

The Canon 330 was near the top of my short list when I recently upgraded to 1080p.

If I'd gone Canon then this is the one I would have bought.

I previously used several A series Canons with great results, tough, compact, reasonably good optics. Canon actually replaced one 4 years out of warranty, how good is that ?

However, the audio can be a bit noisy (back ground hiss) with low volume input, and that was why I went over budget to a Nikon Coolpix L820. Maybe the 330 is better in this respect, I can't comment.

The Canon is definitely more convenient in that it's pocket size, but there's always going to be trade offs with cameras.

I think you bought wisely and hope you have a great run out of it.

Be interested to see and hear some footage.

Cheers

I don't know how the 330 is in this regard.

I know that my A480 did it, and that it seems to be common in the A series cameras.

Hopefully the 330 is better. This was my only concern with going Canon again.

Just have to try it and see.

The Nikon has stereo input as well, so that was a bonus.

Switching from the Canon to the Nikon I have had to adjust my commentary volume (speech) as the mics are definitely much more sensitive than the earlier Canon.

But the Canon is better in that it handled light variations less aggressively than the Nikon, so there's plenty of variables between units.

The reviews on cameras are only a guide, and they are a bit light on the video aspect.

Hey @DioniteFilms

Just an update - I have just ordered a refurbished Canon ELPH 300hs (marketed as the Canon IXUS 220HS in Europe) from a reputable German professional seller on Ebay with 100% positive feedback. He was selling it for 145 Euros including shipping, but he accepted my best offer of €135

It was the 30 fps in full HD which tipped the balance I think, plus all the positive reviews including yours. For the same price, I couldn't find anything with specs or reviews as good as this camera, so I went for this one.

Anyway I just wanted to thank you :) I can't wait for it to be delivered now - I'm like a kid waiting for Father Christmas lol ;)

So my camera arrived today in the post from Germany! It was described as "refurbished" but as far as I can tell, it is brand new, never been used, absolute mint condition. The box had been opened, but the camera and all the accessories were still in their sealed bags. So I am guessing it was just returned, unsold stock so basically a brand new camera with 12 months guarantee

Anyway, the battery is currently charging and then I'm going to take it out for a test drive [DOUBLEPOST=1383704310,1383659618][/DOUBLEPOST]Here is a quick low-light test I did with my new Canon IXUS 220HS (Canon ELPH 300hs )

Recorded in 720p HD and on "auto" settings.

(The video isn't monetized and isn't listed (and never will be). It's just to test the camera and to show it to people who were interested from this thread :) )

sweet man! I'm glad it came in! That camera should record in 1080p though. Did you just choose to record at 720?

Okay sweet xD just making sure! Well it looks great man. I was lucky as well with my "refurbished" camera. It looked brand new.

Yeah, I think they have to put that if the box has been opened, but it's essentially a brand new camera
