'lost' fans?

Do you ever wonder where your 'fans' are?
I mean, I don't have many subscribers so I don't expect millions of adoring comments, buuuut
I have 300 ish subscribers and I would have thought i'd have at least one or two active, caring subscribers by now but... So far, no luck..
I kind of feel like a lot of my subs have come from somewhere that isn't 'Ah, this girl's funny/relatable/nice, I'll subscribe!' more like 'I feel bad for her lmao'
What do you think about your fans? Do you have a lot of active/caring subscribers that you see a lot of comments from, or who check up on you when you haven't posted a video?

sorry if this sounds like self pitty;p it's not I swear!

I have never had fans. I have had supporters, people who have supported my content. To have fans I would have had to have done something that takes skill and talent.
 
Well, I see people throw something around a lot, and that is that on average 1/10 of your subscribers will view each video. So if you get more than 30 views per vid with your 300 subscribers, then you're doing alright.
 
I somehow managed to have 900 people subscribe to me, I've had a few that consistently leave positive comments, some tweet, some steam message. It just comes with time, after people watch you for a while they build a fan mentality, or think of you as a friend. Same way you develop a love for a band or an actor, after you listen or watch them enough: you become a fan.
 
I wouldn't worry about it too much. I currently have 20 subs and I never see them comment. I don't get too bent out of shape about it. I am subbed to about 60 people , and although I like their content I don't watch every single video they put out. I may have subbed to them because they were playing game A, but if they start playing game B that i'm not interested in, I'm not gonna watch it. I'll stay a sub for when they play game C that I do wanna watch. There are honestly just sooo many videos out there, unless the person is subbed to you and only you, it's unlikely youll constantly be getting a response from that person. You also have to remember that peoples needs change. Everyday I login to YT and I see all my sub recommended videos for lets say gaming, but if I got onto youtube to look for a diy on how to build an awesome rabbit cage, I'm not gonna watch their videos at the moment.
 
I wouldn't call them fans yet, but I have many people who consistantly leave feedback on my videos and just tell me what they thought of it. At the same time though, I watch all of their videos and give them some feeedback so I guess If you want an active community you need to get involved in the comment section of other similar small youtubers. Reach out to new people and make friends through youtube if you want an active community in the comment section, but I still have some people who watch but don't comment which is fine by me too

There's probably a good percentage of my subs that have seen every video,
theres a smaller number that I know I've seen their comments more than once.
and there's about 10 or so I can say comment on my posts, follow me in multiple places, make my live streams, and even draw fanart or send fan emails.
so compared to number of subs its a very small percentage. I'd consider anyone that follows me a fan though really, they liked enough to hit that sub button!

I watch some people's every upload, but sometimes may rarely comment unless I've really got something to say.

There very well may be a few fans of your work, but perhaps they don't want to comment, they could be using mobile which is annoying to comment with, but they might watch every video, you never know!

Recently I have actually been trying to find some smaller YouTubers to watch, I found a few and I like to comment on their videos because I know how lonely it can feel when you get no views/comments/likes on videos you try really hard on, It's hard to get out there, and even if I don't stay an active subscriber of theirs (for example, their content isn't the kind that I enjoy) I do like knowing that I could have made them think 'Oh, somebody actually cares about this video.. That means more people could too, in the future' ect

at the point I'm at, at the moment, I wouldn't consider myself to have any 'fans', Not in a 'nobody likes meee' way but more in a, I haven't developed my style/channel/myself fully yet so my vidoes are all over the place, and not THAaatt consistent in content, but.. I would consider myself to have subscribers, watchers ect if that makes any sense haha
Yeah, thats true, I don't comment all that often unless I really want too..
 
I have people that come back consistently to watch my videos but there is kind of a pattern with the circle of people i network with although I do have people who always love comments of support. I'm not a big youtuber but I'm just grateful for the audience I have got, it's not massive but it's something!
