Link Google+ AND Keep your YouTube Username [Guide/Info]

WolfWraith

I Love YTtalk
NOTE: At this stage it's probably more beneficial for people who currently use the same username and channel name. For people who have a YouTuber username but have set a channel name it may be a while before YouTube add a feature to change both and not have them the same.

I took the risk and figured it out. This may or may not work for everyone but has worked for me. I wasn't sure if anyone posted this yet either.

Follow these steps and let me know if it worked for you:

1st: Create a Google+ PROFILE like you would a facebook profile.

2nd: Create a Google+ PAGE again similar to how you would on facebook. This part is a safety precaution and is optional or can be deleted after but I recommend for peace of mind do it. Make this page name the same as your YouTube username.

3rd.:Go into your YouTube settings and click Link Channel with Google+

4th: When you do, a box should show up with 2 pictures asking you to transfer from YouTube to use your Google+ PROFILE. There will be a button that says "I don't want to use my full name", click this box.

5th: You will then be asked to choose if you want to:
Link with your Google+ PAGE (not profile)
Keep your YouTube username
Choose a better name
Use your Google+ PROFILE
Click "Keep your YouTube username", this will then automatically create a Google+ Page for your channel, it will automatically display all the videos from your channel as well.

I did these steps and my channel was left pretty much the same but is now linked to a Google+ page. Only thing is I've lost is my original channel name and my avatar so far. Trying to figure out how to change the channel name without changing the username. This is probably the best way to do it at this stage without having to use your full name.

Okay so turns out, if I change the Google+ Page name it changes the channel name but also my username changes. At least I don't have to use my full name I guess xD

Join G+ because YouTube and its features will like you, not because it is good. Nice guide :)

Thanks. Only reason I joined was because it was going to happen anyways, I don't intend to use Google+ but the features for YouTube, I will. Noticed that you can now control comments, good for blocking certain links or trolls/users and even certain words. I'm assuming that's why YouTube don't care about the new links in comments thing as they intend to force people into Google+ anyways. I just really hope they add a way to have a seperate username and channel name. I mean for me it's not a big issue still being small and all but I feel weird posting with a channel name in comments and stuff.

Yeah, it can be pretty annoying, but it has some nice features. I haven't quite decided if I should take advantage of it as a platform yet. I'm leaning towards not using it.

Yeah I'd rather not, it's just an extra social service to use. I mean, as long as YouTube auto posts to it I guess that's good for the subs who do use Google+. I can't see any advantage to using Google+ as a social media network for both pages and personal profiles. The Google+ user base will grow significantly when it's forced on the YouTube community lol

Videos shouldn't have gone anywhere. Did you link with a profile or page? Follow the instructions like I did and it shouldn't change anything but the channel name and avatar. Everything on mine was the same, channel art, thumbnails, layout. Avoid using your G+ profile as it will use your real name and also forces you to have a first and second name even if you change it.
