Lighting, microphone,...

Hi guys!

Recently I got a new camera, a Canon EOS 600D! I really want to raise the quality of my videos, and one thing I was thinking about, is investing some money in lighting and stuff?

Can someone maybe give me some advice on which lights I will need? And maybe also for a microphone or if you can think about something else!

Thanks!

The Rode VideoMic is (supposed to be) good - mine is all fuzzy on every video, so I'm gonna try and get it fixed. As for lighting, I got this: (edit, can't post links) it's a 2 piece $120 kit from inspironphoto(dot)com

The quality is good, but the lights don't stand up properly and one broke off.

Thanks! I'll keep that in mind.

I've got a Zune portable H1 which is pretty sweet, they're pretty pricey though.
I can't seem to find this on Google?

Also, I will probably need a tripod I guess?

It's brand name is "Zoom". The H1 is a great buy - especially when paired with an Audio Technica lav mic. You can find both on Amazon for under 100$US I think!

You can also keep an eye on Ebay for light kits. A softbox light kit (2-3) isn't usually to pricey. I bet you could score a set for between 50-75$US

Great to hear as my Zoom should arrive on Friday. But what do you mean with pairing it with the lav mic?

The H1 audio recorder has a built in mic (which is great for field interviews when using a foam head over it) - but it has a 3.5mm input for an external mic. The H1 is perfect for lavalier mics because you can hit record, put it in an actors pocket and it grabs great local sound. Audio Technica makes a great (though mono) budget lav mic that I use in every episode of my shows Internet After Dark and The Royal Order of the Holy Mackerel.

Wooooaaahhh!! I didn't even think of that! BONUS FEATURE! (I even have a lavalier mic at home)
Thx for the tip! \o/
But I guess I can't leave both running at the same time, can I? E.g. interviewing people with the internal mic and also record my voice with the lav mic.
